Charlie’s father, Red Tartre, along with his partner Robert Fickett, started HCI Craftsmen (originally called Hardware Consultants) in 1958. The business was originally located in Portland, ME.  From 1958 until 1993 the business grew and eventually expanded into the entire New England region. Charlie started as an estimator in 1975 and within a few years he began his long and successful career in sales. 

In 1980 Charlie and Guy Maiorano started an installation company called Precision Millwork.  This company provided installation support for the products Charlie sold to his clients throughout Maine.  In November of 2006 Charlie along with Michael Boivin started Hardware Consultants. In 2007 Guy Maiorano, as well as many former HCI employees, joined Mike and Charlie in establishing the fastest growing distribution company in the door industry today.
